FAQ
What is it REALLY like at Magdalen?
The students at Magdalen have produced an Alternative Prospectus which tells you everything you could possibly want to know about the real Magdalen, including a look into typical rooms, a tour around the facilities and a look at some silly photos of us having parties.
What sort of students does Magdalen accept / Will I fit in?
This is a concern that everyone who goes to any University faces, but it is one that need not worry you. What Magdalen is looking for is students who exhibit academic potential, an intelligent, enthusiastic and independent-minded interest in your chosen subject and a willingness to work at it. The academic criteria are high, but that is what makes this such a rewarding place to study - if you think you possess these qualities, then you should definitely consider applying to Magdalen.
Apart from that, there is no typical Magdalen student - the best thing about the College is its sheer diversity. We come from all different parts of the country and the world, from every sort of social background, school and religion. Magdalen has no hidden agenda, and we do not discriminate against students from independent schools or against those from state schools.
Most of all, do not worry about fitting in - this is simply not an issue as you do not fit into the college, it adapts around you. Magdalen prides itself on the diversity of its interests, from sport and music to drama and parties. The strong and democratic JCR is made up of all the students, and the facilities are second to none, allowing you to indulge whatever passions you bring to Oxford, as well as those new ones you take up here.
