Classics

Magdalen is one of the most popular colleges in Oxford for Classics and is considered to be one of the best; its standards of teaching are very high, the exam preparation is thorough and Magdalen students traditionally achieve excellent results. While it is hard work, Classics is also a very rewarding subject and there is a vast range of options to choose from in both Mods and Greats, so no two Classics degrees are the same. In addition to Classics and English, the Joint Schools also offer Classics with Modern Languages, and Classics with Oriental Studies (one of my fellow Classicists is studying Classics and Sanskrit!). Classicists are known for working hard. However, Classics can be a sociable subject too. 'Classics drinks' and symposia are regular occurrences, and our strawberries-and-champagne afternoons on New Buildings Lawn attract gatecrashers from all subjects.
