Meetings

There are two types of JCR meeting: General Meetings and Committee Meetings.

General Meetings are the "representative, deliberative and supervisory body of the JCR." Aside from simple day to day items, just about everything the JCR does is debated and decided in GMs, of which there must be at least four per term, normally in 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th weeks at 8:30p.m. held in the bar or JCR. There’s always masses of food – it's not a bad way to get a serious sugar hit. Because meetings are representative of the whole JCR, the meeting can only proceed if a minimum number of members attend – our quorum is 25. An elected independent chair conducts the meeting.

Committee Meetings are held weekly, and are attended only by members of the JCR Committee. They are for the discussion of issues relevant to the committee, and items which do not warrant discussion in a GM.

The minutes of previous JCR General Meetings are available to view publically. In addition, logged-in users may view the minutes of internal Committee Meetings, and view and discuss motions for forthcoming General Meetings. Minutes are the responsibility of the JCR Secretary.
