Entz

If you've heard the vicious rumour that Oxford is all work and no play, then you will be pleasantly surprised by the vast and varied range of entertainment it has to offer. From pubs to clubs, theatre to cinema and live bands, Oxford has a huge amount for everyone. And it has one of the most vibrant clubbing scenes for a city its size. Whatever your preferred genre of music there will be a club and a night for you, from the stodgiest cheese to the trippiest psy-trance; we'll show you the way and get you a discount too. Magdalen has a sizeable scene of its own, boasting several DJs who play at local nights, a few promoters and you’re almost guaranteed a crowd to go with to any night you choose. And if you must, London is only an hour away.

We also run our own in-college parties, known as 'bops', three or four times a term. You might hear them likened to school discos. They’re not. They’re much better, with cheap drinks, all your friends and big tunes in our own college bar. Each one is themed and the costumes are consistently fabulous. Normally Entz organise some sort of after-party, so those who don’t want to stop don’t have to. Our biggest night of the year is the nationally infamous May Eve - we run the JCR Oscars, a large bop, undoubtedly the best after-party in the city, and round it off by listening to the choir sing from the top of the tower at dawn. A must-do.

For the more chilled-out members of college, Entz run pub quizzes and acoustic nights and make sure you know about the huge number of things going on in Oxford any given week. One day it might be a lecture from Patrick Stewart, a visiting production straight out of the West End or a film premiere. Whatever you enjoy, however you choose to relax, Entz help make life easy for you.

Charities

The JCR supports a number of charities, both local and international, and while it’s the responsibility of the Charities Reps to come up with new and exciting ways to raise funds for them, anyone and everyone can get involved. Recent escapades have included an Easter Egg Hunt, Valentine’s Roses and an all-you-can-eat Pancake Day, and we're always on the lookout for new ideas. All the proceeds from these events are donated to charitable organisations nominated and voted for by the JCR on an annual basis, as well as the Magdalen Homeless Action and Magdalen College Aid to the Balkans – founded by members of our own community. There are literally endless possibilities to get stuck in, raise money for a good cause, and have fun doing it!
