Magdalen and PPE are a great combination, if only because PPE's such a fantastic course and Magdalen's such a good place to live.
PPE is a very flexible degree. Initially you will study all three subjects, but in second and third years you can either keep all three going or choose to specialise in just two. You can then pick eight modules from a huge range of options; and so tailor the degree to match your interests. What other degree allows you to choose between 'the economics of industry' and 'knowledge and reality', or even to study them in the same term? Magdalen is one of the best colleges for PPEists. It's close to the philosophy and social science faculties and even closer to the main lecture schools. The college library (open 24 hours a day) is also very well stocked with the relevant books. Proximity to faculties may not seem important now, but wait until it's raining, you are in your pyjamas and have only just realised that you have ten minutes to get the books you need.
What's more, the teaching Magdalen offers its PPEists is excellent. Unlike some other colleges, being taught by fellows is the rule, not the exception, and tutorial sizes are small. The fellows giving the interviews are aware that most interviewees haven't studied these subjects before, so don't expect to be grilled on facts you don't know - instead expect to be asked to think freshly about what you do know. The rest of the interview period is free time, with a couple of optional organised events. It's a good opportunity to see if you could make yourself at home here.
Magdalen has a strong academic reputation, and you will be expected to work hard. However, the atmosphere is supportive and you will be encouraged to balance the work against sport, drama and your social life.
Plus, there are deer.
