Sports

Whether you're destined for the Olympics or just looking for a casual kick around, Magdalen caters for all remotely sport interested! Those who enjoy early mornings and sleep deprivation can join our rowers, who are among the best on the river. Those who prefer not to see what sunrise at 5 is like can play football, rugby, tennis, netball, hockey, rounders, cricket, squash and croquet, amongst others. Doubtless, wide participation is due to a friendly attitude and unrivalled sports facilities, including a brilliant boathouse, close sports fields, tennis, netball and squash courts, sports pavilion and gym. Funding for college teams and university-level players is excellent.

Drama

Being the amazing place it is, Magdalen's attractions extend far beyond parks full of frolicking deer, oh yes (!), we even have our very own top-notch drama society - the Magdalen Players. The president, elected annually, will be on-hand all year to give advice, tips, contacts... in fact, help you in your every theatrical need! With a selection of theatre trips throughout the year, as well as a number of workshops there is the opportunity to learn new skills, boost your confidence, or just give drama a whirl in an informal atmosphere. The Players also produce Magdalen's annual summer show in the College gardens, providing exciting opportunities for college members to team up and become involved in a full-scale theatrical production. Also active at the university level, Magdalen funds several productions a term and we boast many leading actors and actresses. There are plenty of directors at Magdalen too, and all are eager to help fellow Magdalenites wishing to follow in their footsteps so get involved!

Societies

Magdalen is bursting with Societies! Whilst budding debaters may find a home in the Stokesley Society, the Macintyre and Oxford Historical Society will provide for all historically interested, and play host to numerous speakers every term. When the urge for poetry strikes you, head for the Florio Society and the Atkin Law Society caters for the lawyers' every curry orientated need. Scientifically minded? The Sherrington society is for you. Also enjoying strong support is Magdalen Homeless Action and Magdalen College Aid to the Balkans (a university wide organisation which delivers aid to Bosnia). The Christian Union, and Chapel Fellowship are also active within college.

Music

Magdalen has an international reputation for music, based on its diverse range of choirs, orchestras and performers. The college choir draws students and visitors from all round the world to gather on Magdalen Bridge for the May eve and May morning celebrations! Whilst the standard is often very high, Magdalen prides itself on having something for everyone. From a non auditioning choir, small ensembles, college orchestra and music society to the swing band, rest assured, that whatever your standard, there is an opportunity for you. Magdalen music benefits from outstanding performance venues, including a new, state of the art auditorium. And for those with bags of enthusiasm (and limited discernible talent!) there are always karaoke nights in the bar!
